Acorna's People

Acorna struggles to adapt to the Linyaari lifestyle, finding it somewhat frivolous compared to her life in space. She must leave her new home to face a threat even more cruel than the insect-like Khleevi, which Acorna encountered in earlier books. Aided by her human uncles, Gill, Rafik, and Calum, a rogue trader named Becker, and his cat, RK, RoadKill, she sets out to right injustices. During her search for a lost ancestral resting place, Acorna uncovers the secret history of the link between the Linyaari and humans.

Acorna has found her people and is back with them, but its not what she expected. Even though she is no longer an outsider due to her horn and differently shaped hands and feet, due to growing up with humans, she doesn’t fit in and even offends some. Her attempts to make amends fall flat since some even mistrust her. Then a crisis occurs and Acorna’s offers to help are rebuffed.

Once again Acorna and her friend save the world. It might seem that these would get repetitive with the expected crisis and resolution, however McCaffrey manages to keep it rather fresh by introducing new characters and new scenarios. She also conveys very well how isolated Acorna feels, even with her own kind there is a disconnect.

Acorna gets to visit the new homeworld of her people. There's some culture shock as the conservatives don't embrace her differences. Acorna tries her best to learn the ways of her people.
I wasn't wild about this book. I enjoyed [Acorna] but haven't enjoyed books 2 and 3 in the series. I bought more of the books all at once so I may read more of them but I don't see myself keeping any but the first book.

With the help of her "uncles" and the thousands of humans who love and admire her, Acorna has found her true people, the peaceful, telepathic Linyaari. But Acorna still has much to do before she can enjoy her new home. The legendary resting place of the lost Linyaari ancestors has yet to be found. And with the help of a rogue space trader and his feline sidekick, Acorna must strive to right an unspeakable wrong and defeat an enemy even crueler than the Khleevi. Along the way, she will at last uncover the Universe's most carefully guarded secret--the true nature of the ancient link between the Linyaari and the space-faring humans she has also come to think of as her "people."
