Someone has stolen three magical items from the witches of Ferryport Landing in Magic and Other Misdemeanors. Worse, time tears are showing up over the little town. Are the two mysteries connected? In the meantime, Mayor Heart and the Sheriff of Nottingham display the very bigoted behavior that got the barrier erected around Ferryport landing in the first place. The property taxes on human houses are being raised so high that humans can't afford to live there anymore. The most ridiculous sum is levied on the Grimm house and its three acres of forest land.
Sabrina and Daphne are sucked into a time tear and find themselves in a very unpleasant future. Yes, the dragon on the cover is there. In that future, Mr. Canis has lost the battle to show more the Big Bad Wolf. Humanity is warred upon by the Ever Afters. The girls manage to make it back to the past, but can they avert that dreadful future? They have an unexpected ally in Prince Charming.
The adventures and the mysteries are very good. I failed to guess the thief or the reason. The finale is so pessimistic that I'm reluctant to listen to the next book. show less

The Grimm family is all back together at Ferryport Landing. The girls are finally being trained as fairy-detectives after Sabrina in the last book admitted that she did want to stay in the family business. And they are also taking things into their own hands by inviting princesses and others who were placed under spells to help figure out a way to wake up Henry and Veronica Grimm. But true help comes from an unexpected place.
But before they learn the secret/loophole, the girls are whisked away to find the truth about who exactly is stealing from the witches. By combining the magical items that are being stolen, strange effects are happening, including people and creatures coming and going from the past and future. And what will the show more girls do when they are pulled into the future and see their friends and themselves?
Meanwhile, Granny Grimm fights to keep her home. Mayor Heart wants to run out all the humans from Ferryport Landing; therefore, she has given them all a ridiculous tax on their houses, forcing them to leave. Somehow Granny manages to put together the fee, but after she pays it, Nottingham ups the fee.
In this book, the girls must face themselves and their destinies. They must fight to change the future. But most of all, they must somehow find away to stay at Ferryport Landing by solving a mystery that they may never solve. show less

I'm not sure if I just wasn't in the proper mood or if I'm tiring of these tales, but the fifth installment of The Sisters Grimm just didn't do as much for me as the previous books in the series. It's not that I didn't enjoy it - it was a fun read. I just kept thinking 'Come on already.' It was exciting, and the storyline kept my interest. I guess I was hoping for a teensy bit of closure, and with this one I felt I got more unanswered questions instead. I'm still looking forward to book six, just perhaps not as much as I was looking forward to book five.
By the end of this book, things were getting pretty exciting. Sabrina and Daphne get some real insight into members of the Scarlet Hand, and the tables really start to turn in Ferryport Landing. This book was probably my favourite one since the first novel, and I’m hoping that the rest of the series continues to be as fun.
I loved the suspense and adventure that was put into this book from past to present and present to the future. I can't wait to finish the series and find out if the Grimm sisters can stop the scarlet hand from taking over the world and a way to get their parents back awake.
In this newest Sisters Grimm mystery, magical artifacts are stolen from Everafters. But before Sabrina and Daphne can track down the culprit, they are sucked into a time portal and dumped fifteen years into the future. The future is a grim place where the Master and the Scarlet Hand have taken over the world. Sabrina and Daphne have to find a way back to their own time and prevent this future from happening.

- Epigraph
- PUCK FLAPPED HIS WINGS HARD, but nothing he did could stop his body from being pulled toward the black, gaping hole that hovered above him. He looked like a worm struggling to avoid the hungry jaws of a catfish.
"He... (show all)llo! We've got a problem," he cried as he flailed in midair.
Sabrina did the only thing she could think to do. She grabbed Puck's foot as he sailed past, hoping that their combined weight would stop his drift. Unfortunately she, too, was jerked off the ground. She cried out, but her grandmother, uncle, and Mr. Canis were too far away to reach her. Only Sabrina's sister, Daphne, was nearby. The little girl latched onto Sabrina's pant leg and was yanked off the ground as well. Now all three of them were caught in the hole's swirling gravitational pull.
Puck's face passed through the black hole and his head disappeared. His upper torso and arms followed, then his waist, and finally his knees. All that was left in this world of the boy fairy were his sneakers. Sabrina clung to them with all her strength, attempting to defy the impossible force.
"We're losing him," Daphne cried desperately.
"Puck, you have to fight it!" Sabrina shouted.
But her own words sounded laughable in Sabrina's ears. How could he fight something with such a powerful hunger? What could any of them do to stop themselves, and soon the rest of the world, from being sucked into nothingness?
Puck's shoes disappeared into the hole, though Sabrina could still feel them. She knew if she let go he would be gone forever, but she had problems of her own. The hole was starting to swallow her up. Both her arms sunk into the empty, dark pool. She took a deep breath and said a final silent prayer for her soul, hoping that God would find her on the other side, wherever that might be.
And then the hole quadrupled in size. - Dedication
