This kid's book was illustrated by Maurice Sendak and written by his brother Jack. The cover has a picture of both of them taken in 1956! It's about a little girl named Flora who was born into the happy life of a circus. As she got older she began to wonder about the audiences she saw every night. Who were they? What did they do when they wern't watching her? So, she went off on a quest of her own to find out.
The story is cute, and very typical of children's stories written around the 50's. But, the pictures by Maurice Sendak are fascinating! He wasn't famous yet, and they are drawn differently than his later "Wild Things" but you can sure see the similarities! And, they illustrate the story beautifully
