Once again, Callie Hart has crafted something extraordinary. We pick up where we left off in "Quicksilver". Boy, does this back a punch. Saeris Fane is now the Vampire Queen and must navigate the politics and horrors of the Blood Court. Kingfisher and Carrion Swift travel back to Zilvaren in order to bring Saeris' brother, Hayden, to Yvelia. That trip doesn't go as planned, and it's anyone's guess who, if anyone, will make it back alive. All of this is happening while a deadly rot is infecting the land and destroying all in its path. Saeris and her friends must now find a way to stop it.
We are back with our favorite characters and meet some new ones. Some of the descriptions in this book are incredibly beautiful. The story didn't lag show more for a single second. I was hooked and all in. The only thing I didn't like (as in the first book) was the blood/teeth play. That just disgusts me. But, overall, this was outstanding.
I am so looking forward to the next book. I want it now! show less

Okay. Wow?? Umm.. Still processing. SO much happened in this book. Did it all make sense? No lol. But was it incredible? Yes. It took me a minute to get back into the world. Typically in a thick fantasy book like this it’ll have subtle reminders of plot points, but this didn’t have too much of that. The story just picked up right where it left off from Quicksilver. The ratio of spice to plot was *chef’s kiss*. And the world building is so intricate that I feel like I could jump into the book. The characters?? LOVE.
I have more questions than answers. The cliffhanger was so rude. And now I have to wait another year for the next book??? Ugh. The audio was impeccable. Anthony Palmini is so talented at creepy voices but also hot af?? show more Like the range is unbelievable. I’ll be impatiently waiting for the next book!!! show less

Brimstone by Callie Hart
I feel like I need to reread this book again one day because I think I set myself up a bit. I went into this read with sky-high expectations and I rushed through it. Looking back, I definitely think I sabotaged myself a little because I didn’t take in the story the way I normally would.
I did enjoy this book, but I also think it could have been a little shorter. There were so many descriptions of past thoughts and memories to connect to what the characters were feeling, but it ended up pulling me out of the moment. I love a descriptive story, but sometimes it felt like I was waiting for an ad to finish so we could get back to what was actually happening. That slowed everything down for me and made some parts show more feel a little boring when they didn’t need to be.
That said, the plot itself was solid. The romance between Kingfisher and Saeris was perfection. I know some readers said they didn’t feel the romance, but I thought it had a good mix of tender moments and spice. I also loved the side characters, especially Carrion 🤍. He cracked me up in Quicksilver and he was just as funny in Brimstone.
The cliffhanger at the end was perfect and now I’m excited for book three. Even with the moments that dragged for me, I know this is a story I actually liked and might enjoy even more on a reread when I’m not rushing. show less

I inhaled this book. It was everything. I honestly loved every second of it. I had quite the emotional journey reading it. I think we got some amazing character development especially from Carrion and we are seeing Saeris come into her own. Fisher is still everything and more with a million swoonworthy quotes I could list all day. The bond between the two of them seemed to be much stronger in this one. We got more backstory and honestly if I don't get the next book soon I might go crazy because holy cow.
The description of what grief feels like (on page 625 in the edition I read?) Spot-on: it made me cry. The rest of the book was alarmingly mediocre and often frustrating.
I felt like Brimstone pulled me in so many different directions and I'm here for it!
I liked all aspects of this sequel which tied up some loose ends.
That ending just seemed so abrupt, and rushed.
Either way I'm ready for Book 3!
