Six long, mournful years ago, Amelia’s life was turned upside down. Her father was exposed as the criminal he was, she was reunited with her long-lost sister, and she lost the love of her life. Resigned to the fact that her one chance at true romantic love was lost with her childhood sweetheart’s murder, she faces a promising future as wife of the Earl of Ware, her long-time friend and trusted confidante. But having once tasted abiding love and unbridled passion, albeit unconsummated, she yearns for more.
Colin came very close to losing his life that fateful night when he helped Amelia escape her father’s evil clutches. But he survived. Indeed, he did more than survive, using their separation show more to build his status from that of a gypsy stable boy with no future to that of a mysterious and obscenely wealthy nobleman.
Now, when Colin has retired from his short stint as a secret agent, ready to return to Amelia and claim her for his own, the enemies he made along the way endanger everything he has sacrificed for all these years. Worse, Colin’s own decisions threaten to destroy Amelia’s trust in him forever.
I only just read the previous story to this one, Passion for the Game, a few months ago, but it knocked my socks off to the point where I was left panting for its sequel! Between Sylvia Day being firmly ensconced on my list of very favorite authors and the previous book in this passionate (pun intended) series, my expectations for A Passion For Him were extremely high. As usual, Ms. Day does not disappoint her fans. This book lives up to every hope and dream this reviewer had for Colin and Amelia, making the interminable moments of anticipation waiting for its release more than worthwhile.
Raised in virtual solitude with only servants for companions, closely guarded by her father, the unpretentious Lady Amelia has no notion of the social mores of the real world. She never realized the difference in station between herself and the few friends she made in her childhood. But Colin was never allowed to forget his place in her life, no matter that the love he harbored for her was requited. Knowing he can never give her the life she deserves as a stable boy, he resolves to grab the chance he is given to make something more of himself, with a plan to return to her once he is firmly established. But to take that opportunity, he lets everyone who loves him most believe him dead for six years.
Poor, virtuous Colin is a typical headstrong male – once he decides he knows the best way to proceed, he doesn’t always consider the emotional impact of his actions on this around him. Although he had the very best of motivations, and admirable intentions, Colin’s methods leave something to be desired. Will those actions cost him the one thing he desires above all else?
Amidst it all, our fair couple, along with their family and friends, is embroiled in an intrigue that keeps them on the edge of danger – a fact that Colin is always conscious of. The unraveling intricacies of the plot against our hero keep the story as exciting as the romance, and the reader on the edge of their seat!
I pre-ordered A Passion for Him with two-day shipping as soon as I read its predecessor, and planned the evening of its UPS delivery around this book. I began reading it the moment I arrived home from work and was, as expected, unable to put it down until I finished the book that same evening. I know fans of Sylvia Day and fans of historical romance will find this delightful new release as gripping as I did! show less

When it comes to this author, I read only her historical novels.
This book was originally published in 2007, by Brava, with a very nice cover and a much longer book blurb, and I liked both better than the republication's book blurb and cover from 2013 and Kensington. This is the third book in Georgian series and the first I've read, meaning I better get the rest now.
As for the story, it was one hot and heavy romance with plenty of angst between the main characters.
While I liked the heroine Amelia who had such unstable upbringing and whose sheltered life had only one bright ray of sunshine found in a friendship with the stable boy.
Years later that stable boy risks his life to save the girl he adores and knows could never be able to have show more in his life.
The complexity of Colin's character was what made this book worth reading. My heart went out to him and I honestly couldn't see how these two could ever find each other and work out all their differences.
If you love the "lost love found" tropes, I highly recommend you read this fast pacing, extremely sensual and wonderfully told romance.

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales
Quick & Dirty: Mystery man enters her life wearing a mask and Amelia is intrigued. Will she settle for a life of passion or compromises.
Opening Sentence: The man in the white mask was following her.
The Review:
Just so we are all on the same page, I went into this 3rd book of the series having not read the previous two and I don’t believe that it impacted on the story. This is vitally important if you are like me and like to follow a story from the beginning in almost a compulsive obsessive manner. This book is a delight as a stand alone. Now on to the rest of the review.
The first sentence of this book sets the scene for the entire book. A mysterious man in a mask is following our heroine, Amelia, but show more instead of being concerned or worried, she has as my grandmother says “gumption” and seeks to figure out who this man is. She is a woman who has suffered through much in a short span of life and carries these experiences with her as an independent woman. The richness of her history and her unflagging sense of determination and spunk very quickly endeared her to me. She refuses to be the typical heroine in distress which in part is due to Ms. Day’s wonderful story telling.
Our “masked man” is Colin Mitchell, a man that saved Amelia when she was a young girl, appeared to have died in the attempt and returning from Europe in order to claim the woman of his dreams. Colin’s journey is detoured when he is a witness to a murder that the authorities believe he committed. So in order to not bring this tragedy into Amelia’s path he decides to visit her on the night of the masquerade so he may say goodbye.
The story from there is filled with twists and turns that had me smiling and even reading a portion again because I was completely shocked at one of the plot twists. However, this is a story written by Ms. Day and no story would be complete with out sex. I do recommend this book for its wonderful story but do note that it isn’t a PG-13 experience.
Notable Scene:
Her foot tapped impatiently atop the gravel as she waited. That was why she did not hear the man’s approach. She did, however, feel him. The hairs on her nape tingled with awareness, and she turned swiftly with a soft gasp of surprise.
He stood just barely within the entrance of the circle, a tall, dark form that vibrated with a potent energy that seemed barely restrained. Beneath the pale light of the moon, the man’s inky locks gleamed like a raven’s wing, and his eyes glittered with the very intensity that had goaded her to seek him out. He wore a full cape, the gray satin lining providing a striking backdrop to his black garments, enabling her to fully appreciate the site and power of his frame.
“I was looking for you,” she said softly, her chin lifting.
“I know.”

Review:
"A Passion For Him" by Sylvia Day was quite a historical, erotic romance novel that turned out to be some emotional roller coaster ride. This novel was a third in the 'Georgian' series.
It starts out ...Stranger...he is wearing a mask and is following her...just like Colin would do but he was dead and Amelia believes she will never again shiver with pleasure, never again sign his name.' Lover...'Until her masked pursuer lures her into a moonlit garden and a single, reckless kiss. Now she is obsessed with discovering his identity. Perfectly attuned to his every desire, his every thought, she will not show more stop until she knows his every secret.' And this is where I way you must pick up this read to find out what happens as Amelia notices the stranger who is watching her. This author will take you into this historical mystery romance only leaving you to say Wow! You will find all of the characters in the novel so well depicted, well depicted and well portrayed. "A Passion For Him" was well written and a easy read of: 'Lovers Lost, Lovers Found, Betrayal, Murder and Deception' sums up this good read. Would I recommend this read? YES! show less

This book started a bit boring but in the end, it turned out to be a very dangerous and passionate tale of love. Once again, Sylvia Day made the characters to be perfect just for this book and this story. I've always liked pirates and spies and this book was full of them. I'm very glad that I picked up this book and read it all the way to the end. Now I'm one history novel richer and very happy about it.
When I started reading this book, I didn't know that it was the thrid book in a series. However, I was able to follow the story without the background information. The book recaps enough so you dont have to read the first two books to understand Amelia's story.
In short:
Amelia lives with her sister and brother-in-law, who are notorious criminals. Lord Ware, has been Amelia's friend for six years now and everyone expects them to marry even they know it is coming one day, just slowly. Colin was the love Amelia's life, they grew up playing together, he was the newphew of a stable hand and there for was under her in class, but she did not care. Over time their love grew as did they, olin was three years older than Amelia and undersood he show more should not have dreams of being with her since he is just a stable boy. One night the house became under attack and Colin broke in to save Amelia and take her away, while riding away the unthinkable happens. Six years later Amelia is still heart broken at the loss of Colin and can't find it in herself to love anyone, not even Ware, she may love him as a friend but nothing else. Then one night when a stranger shows up at a ball, Amelia finds she has an intense attraction for the first time since Colin and maybe she can love again.
For me the book started off slow, and maybe that is because I had not read the first two books. I wanted more out of the charaters and the plot. Amelia's was always feel bad about herself and was just going along for the ride, after Colins death she pretty much gave up on living her own life, just what others thought she should do. I liked Ware as a character he always was trying to my Amelia happy, even while he was in bed with another. The supporting characters for the most part had their back stories in the first two books and i have a feeling in the book after this one as well. The sex was steamy and left you wishes you had a masked man in your bed. I liked that Day left the door to the bed room open for us and didn't just hit at what was going on behind the door. With the plot I just wnated there to be something more, it had a begining, middle and end to it but it moved fast and he middle wasn't as entertaining as I wanted, it just left a little hole.
I don't think this book is for everyone, you must like seamy sex, an uneven plot and duels. I would recommend reading the other books first to help with understanding the other charaters and maybe it will bring more joy from he book. show less
