Description

At Bloodwing Academy, blood is currency, but a dragon's legacy is priceless—and as dangerous as fire.
I thought surviving my first year in Bloodwing's deadly halls would be enough. I was wrong.
I accidentally woke a dragon—a creature of myth, of death, of fire.
Now every highblood house wants control over me and the dragon's legacy I carry. But here's the truth: I have no control. I'm bluffing my way through every encounter, trying to keep everyone from realizing that I'm not the one show more pulling the dragon's strings.
And then there's Blake Drakharrow. I thought he was on my side, that I might even be able to trust him. But he betrayed me. Now I'm his only blood source. How messed up is that? In a place like Bloodwing, where power and survival are everything, this bond may well be the death of us both. Unless I can find a way to end it.
In this world of vampires, dragons, and lies, there are no happy endings. Just legends—and the darkness it takes to make them.

This is an electrifying sequel that dives deeper into the perilous world of Bloodwing Academy. Medra’s bond with Nyxaris, a fiery dragon, thrusts her into deadly power struggles among vampire highbloods. Blake, the brooding vampire with a complicated connection to Medra, brings tension and betrayal that keep you hooked. The story masterfully blends court intrigue, dragon lore, and morally grey characters with enemies-to-lovers romance. Medra’s loyalty to her friends and determination to uncover the truth makes her a compelling heroine. Packed with action, secrets, and heart-pounding twists, this dark academic romantasy is perfect for fans of high fantasy and dark academic romance.
Thank you to Briar Boleyn, NetGalley and Starwater Press for this free ARC in exchange for my honest review!

    The Plot:
Book 2 picks up exactly were Book 1 left us. Medra has awoken Nyxaris and must figure out how to survive. She has also just discovered that her bonded mate isn't who she thought he'd be. So now, she has to juggle a stubborn dragon, an overbearing mate, and his uncle (who definitely wants to either kill Medra or use her for something nefarious) all while keeping her friends alive and maintaining her own sanity. Sounds easy enough, right?

    My Thoughts:
Book 2 was just a great as the first. I thought the pacing was spot on. There were a lot of characters, but it didn't get confusing. And we didn't have to wait until the very show more end for something interesting to happen. Also, I really liked the direction we're going with Kage. Hoping for that to build more in book 3.
The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the romance in this one. Book 1, I thought Medra and Blake had the perfect enemies to lovers dynamic, but it just didn't hit for me here. Mostly because I am not a fan of the "hate-lust" tropes. Blake ended up partially redeeming himself, but we'll see if he can fix it in Book 3.
Nyxaris was awesome. He brought a different approach to Medra in the way he handled situations and in the way he protected others and that was refreshing.

Can't wait for Book 3 coming Spring 2025!

I HAVE FOUND MY NEW OBSESSION !!!! But why must it do this to me. I can’t breathe right now. I’m physically shaking. No amount of words can describe the turmoil building inside me at this work of art. EVERYBODY NEEDS TO READ SO GETT ONNN ITTT!!!

I’m a SUCKAA for dragons, vampires…. dragon riders
The yearning…TRUE enemies to lovers….the MMC is so fucked up but we love/hate him anyway

The plot was plotting. Set in an academy setting with different Houses and everyone wants her but she’s his!
