Definitely another favorite. I picked this up at a used bookstore along with several others, and am recommending it to friends for a good read. I think I enjoy the suspense more than the romance (romance gets a little dry with most books) but she keeps me wanting to see what happens between the characters every time.
Prosecutor Kate White thought she had built a good life for herself and her son. Then one day she comes face to face with her troubled past and is forced to confront the consequences alongside Det Tom Braga. Good romantic suspense, nice chemistry between the main characters.
Kate White is a single mother and an Assistant Prosecutor. She has worked hard to leave her past behind, but it reappears when shooting begins in the courtroom. As she tries to protect her reputation, others are trying to sort out the facts (and her involvement) in the courtroom disaster.
Guilty was a great introduction to the author Karen Robards. As a non-romance reader, but a lover of suspense, it blended the two successfully. The suspense had a few twists I didn't expect and chapter cliff hangers that enticed me to continue. The romance was definitely there, but it wasn't pervasive, making it an interesting addition to a suspenseful plot.
A few scenes and one character did not seem realistic, which caused me some disappointment, but show more for the most part it was an easy, enjoyable read. (4/5)

This was a "quick pick" on the counter in the library so I just picked it up on the off chance without really seeing what it was about. I'm quite pleased I found it. It is a courtroom/crime thriller with cheesy romantic undertones! The heroine, Kate, is a prosecutor with a shady past which it turns out she hasn't managed to put quite as far behind her as she thought. It catches up with her when she is taken hostage during a shoot-out in the courthouse. She is rescued by a handsome and sexy cop who, it is evident from the get-go, is set to be the man of her dreams! There is nothing particularly clever or original about this but it whiled away my lunchbreaks and bus-rides quite happily for a week or so.
This is an entertaining story, despite being a bit far-fetched or too-tidy at times. The plot did make me wonder how the book would end (always a good thing). My rating reflects my frustrations with the Heroine. Her actions and attitude fluctuate quickly and often. The narration by Joyce Bean was average. A great story to listen to while pulling weeds.
I won this book through Bookreporter.com. It is a romantic suspense story and moves quickly. I actually stayed up to 1:30 last night because I couldn't but it down. Robards writes an interesting story with twists and turns that makes it a good page downer. It reminded me a little of the Perry O'Shaughnessy books. I don't usually read romantic stories as they usually go into more sexual detail than I like. This was true of this book also. I like to leave things to the imagination.
Raised in foster care and hanging with a bad crowd, she is present when one of the group, Mario, kills an off-duty cop during a robbery. She gets separated from the group and runs off. 13 years later she has married, has a child, been deserted, gone to college and law school and just joined the Philadelphia DA’s Office. Her first significant case should be a good one, but it all goes bad when gunmen enter the courtroom and start shooting. One of the gunmen is Mario and he uses his knowledge of her past to blackmail her into helping him. But that is not the end. He keeps coming back and she gets more and more threats. In the meantime, she is being watched by homicide detective Tom Braga, who feels there are things not right with her show more story. I won’t say more, except that there is a lot of danger and suspense before the end. show less
