A pop history look at an early hominid species, the Denisovans, and what the current state of knowledge is about how they might be related to other ancient hominid species such as the Neanderthals. As a broad introduction to the topic for the layperson, it's useful if often quite dry and technical. There are some interesting topics discussed, such as how Chinese nationalism has influenced some interpretations of these very ancient remains, but I wasn't enamoured by all of the framings that Condemi and Savatier used (e.g. referring to names that follow the Western European format of First Name + Family name as "a proper name" in contrast to First Name + Patronymic; a mention of the present-day Indian subcontinent, for no apparent reason show more and on the basis of no evidence, as "over-crowded", etc.) show less
