Description
"Welcome to The Tusk & Tail Tavern where the fire is always crackling, the meat pies are rich and savory, the air is filled with laughter and bard-song, and friends are like family. At least, it used to be...Half-elf Lira is eager to return to The Tusk & Tail Tavern, where she and her companions set off on their adventures many years ago. But the rundown tavern is no longer the bustling hub where dwarf mercenaries and halfling farmers shared pints over a friendly game of dice. More show more crucially, what Lira came back for--what she buried in the tavern's basement--is now bricked over. What better way to stay close to her hidden treasure--and figure out a way to retrieve it--than to offer to restore the tavern? After all, her grandmother taught her to bake, and she still remembers the recipes--for the most part. She doesn't count on having to partner with a dwarf warrior named Sassy or have a surprisingly clever, winged ermine take up residence in her kitchen. And she's grateful for the shy orc soldier who offers to fix her stove and everything else that keeps breaking in the tavern, but why does he seem afraid to talk to her?As she and her rag-tag group breathe life back into The Tusk & Tail Tavern, Lira remembers the joy in an evening by the fire, the value of a true friend, and what it's like to fight as hard for the quiet moments in life as the ones marked by glory and treasure. But leaving your past in the past isn't always so easy. Danger has a way of finding Lira no matter how far she runs, but now she has more to protect than herself. And if she wants to leave her days of deception behind her, she'll have to reveal the truth to those she's grown to love."--Amazon.com. show lessTags

I absolutely love this cozy, fantasy read. All the characters are great. Even grumpy, Durn, the tavern owner. He is one that grows on you.
Lira and Sarsaparilla aka Sass are actually not that different. They may be different as Lira is a half elf and Sass a dwarf but really, they are both just trying to find themselves. I liked these two together.
This is low spice, but I am fine with it. The few hints of spice between Lira and Korl were enough to make me very happy. The kiss is nice. "The handsome orc was the right blend of warmth, spice, and sweetness. Just like the perfect cup of chai."
Another character that I loved is Crumpet. He is just the cutest. I can't wait to read Sass's story next. This is one book that you need to read. It show more is a sweet treat of a read! show less

3.5 stars? Could even go up to 4!
A very cozy fantasy story about a tavern and it's workers! Love the small town feel, and all the side characters feel alive despite the book being so short. Sass, Lira, Crumpet and Lira's grandmother (in absentia) really pull the feel-good vibe together. Didn't much care for the love story and would have much preferred Val x Lira. Korl is a nice character overall and I enjoy his awkwardness and softness, but I kinda glossed over some bits of the romance. Overall a really cozy, warm book for a really despairing time in my life.
Seems like the next book will be focused on Sass and Val so that will be nice to read.

Lovely cosy fantasy, not overly heavy on the romance - and not at all spicy - but still very sweet.
If you enjoyed Travis Baldree's Legends & Lattes, S.L. Rowland's Cursed Cocktails, or any of the A Fellowship of... books from the Andenashire series by J. Penner then this is [very likely] also for you.
I am looking forward to the second book in the series coming out in a couple of days. In times like these I desperately need more cosy fantasy with cinnamon scone roll orcs.

Love, love, love this book! It is the perfect amount of adventure, self-discovery, mystery, found family, and a sprinkle of romance. I cannot say enough good things about it!! I think Crumpet is my favorite
The warm cozy vibes I got from the book was like I got a hug (and a mug of Chai). I honestly cannot wait for the second book and it’s already on my wishlist!
