How to Tame a Hellhound
by Shannon Mae
Book 3 – Hellhounds of Paradise Falls
Spice Level: Medium
Tropes: Grumpy/Sunshine, Found Family, Hidden Identity, Protective Hero, Monster Romance
Trigger Warnings: Past abuse, PTSD, mentions of captivity, emotional trauma
Synopsis (No Spoilers):
Aiden never expected his life to change when he met the oversized hellhound who kept mysteriously showing up during his hardest moments—snarling at strangers, keeping watch at night, and quietly offering warmth and protection. Nicknamed Fluffy, the creature becomes an unlikely comfort for Aiden as he struggles to cope with the shadows of his past. What he doesn’t know is that Fluffy is actually Atlas—a powerful and emotionally clueless hellhound shifter show more who feels drawn to Aiden.
But when truths are revealed and secrets unravel, Aiden has to come to terms with trusting again—both himself and the hellhound who just might be his mate.
Spoiler Thoughts:
I absolutely loved Atlas (aka Fluffy). He’s big, blunt, protective, and completely confused about human behavior—and it made for some hilarious and heartwarming moments.
Aiden’s trauma was handled with a lot of care. His fear of being touched, his guardedness, and his hesitation around relationships were so realistic and didn’t magically disappear just because he found a love interest.
The reveal scene when Aiden found out his hellhound was actually Atlas?? I laughed so hard. The “YOU’RE FLUFFY?!” moment was comedy gold and one of my favorite scenes in the whole series.
Watching Aiden slowly let himself trust Atlas was incredibly rewarding, especially since Atlas never pushed—he just waited, guarded, and protected.
The ending made me feel like I got wrapped in a warm fuzzy blanket made of monster hugs and emotional healing.
Final Thoughts:
This was my favorite in the Hellhounds of Paradise Falls series so far. It’s everything I love in a monster romance—protective chaos creature, emotional healing, slow trust-building, and just the right balance of spice and softness. If you’re into monster romances that don’t gloss over trauma and feature a lovable himbo hellhound, this one’s a must-read. show less
