Cairo. Warif is released from prison after 7 years as a political prisoner. He barely recognizes the new Cairo--new parks, new buildings, bustling with foreigners and money. He wants his translator job back, but is sent on more and more interviews trying to explain why he wants the job rather than just the salary they will provide him (like blood money). His parents have died, his friends Wagdi and Sally are still there and still his friends, but he is constantly confused and lost about how he fits in. He was sent to prison for posting and deleting about how Egypt needed foreigners to run the place--and that came true. Disillusionment, confusion, sadness, and definitely some ptsd. He just watches these things go on, how life went on for show more everyone except himself. show less
