The memoirs of an FBI agent who went undercover for years as a drug smuggler for the Colombian cartels. Because the facts of the story are so interesting, it's an enjoyable read. But it feels sanitized, like all the salacious stuff I wanted to read about has been cut out. The narrator never faces any really complicated choices or does anything that would reflect badly on him (or the FBI)—does such a seemingly perfect boy scout of a human being really make for a successful criminal?
Interesting, suspenseful, thrilling, informative, fascinating, and scary. Those are all words that I would use to describe this book. What is even more surprising is that this is a true story, not a current top fiction book, I will never cease being amazed by the dedication of the members of the FBI, DEA, or CIA. To give up actual years of their lives, not to mention the danger they face, shows the commitment they make to our country. This is a great story, told extremely well by the authors. One of those books that just grabs your attention and doesn't let go! I cannot wait to see the movie that HAS to be made of it!
