A good class novel for year 5+. It would raise many questions among the students, especially those who don't have much experience of the fantasy genre. Lends itself well to discussion and exploration especially of the ending.
Some readers would find the lack of realistic explanation unsettling.
The author emphasises that the children were changed forever because of their experience, but how they have been changed is not explained.
