I feel bad for hating the book as much as I do, but it felt pointless. I made it to about chapter 11 before I stopped reading.
The characters:
Mara - First of all, I didn’t like Mara. I hated how she was introduced at the very end of Fearless. I feel like I would be more invested in her if she was foreshadowed earlier on and did something important, whether good or bad. Then I’d be more interested in her. Also, I feel like I was left with more questions about her than answers, who really is she? Was she human before she was death?
Kitt - I used to love Kitt, and I even forgave him a bit for forcing Paedyn into marriage. (Pae did do him dirty). I thought he was doing it to unite Ordinarys and Elites (ik their step siblings - which is show more weird). I feel like his potential was wasted. Like is he supposed to be the bad guy? I don’t like that Kitt is the ‘bad guy’.
The perspective:
It feels like the plot was more about Blair and Lenny than Mara and Kitt. Mara literally wasn’t doing anything, just observing Lenny and Blair. I don’t care about Blair. She killed Adena and ever since that I have no sympathy for her. I do not care about her relationship with her mom. And because Lenny likes her I now hate him too.
I wish it had been about Kai and Kitt as children and all their shenanigans.
Maybe if you Tandem read it with Fearless it wouldn’t be bad. Actually, now that I think about it it would be so much better to just Tandem read it. But I already read Fearless and I didn’t know about this novella coming out soooo, yea. show less
