A Match to the Heart: One Woman's Story of Being Struck By Lightning

Jeeez, this has been hard going for such a tiny book. It sounded so fascinating, but sadly what I EXPECTED from it turned out to only be a small part of the book as a whole. When Ehrlich is talking about the science of lightning, about the mechanics of a lightning strike, about its effects on the human body, about the medicine behind recovery from such a devastating electrical surge - all this is SO interesting. Unfortunately a large proportion of the book is instead devoted to restless, self-indulgent, self-absorbed, faux-spiritual wallowing, and in these moments the author often plunges into prose so purple it actually made me laugh a few times. This book is about the year after Ehrlich's being hit by lightning on her Wyoming ranch, and her recovery from that incident. I found that it was a mixed read. Some chapters were really interesting, others not so much.

The part I found interesting is how she describes that we live in bodies that we don't actually know that much about. I had never really thought about how bit of a part electricity plays in our anatomy.

Haven't read it yet, but have read an excerpt somewhere. She describes, from first-hand experience, what it's like to be hit by lightning, then the necessity of having to, essentially, "go it alone" because it's a very rare doctor who knows anything at all about electrocution injuries.
Looked fascinating.

Again, highly recommended. You will learn much about lightning and what it does to a human body. LOVED this book.
