Edward S. Curtis (1868-1952) moved to Seattle in 1891. Convinced he was witnessing an irreversible loss of Native American culture, he began a series of journeys across the West to photograph members of various tribes. Between 1896 and 1930, Curtis visited and photographed every major Native American tribe -- 80 in all -- west of the Mississippi

Christopher Cardozo is the author of a portfolio of Edward S. Curtis gravures, "Native Nations," as well as four other titles on the subject. Recognized as one of the worlds leading authorities on the work of Curtis, he is the principal curator & consultant to the four major private Curtis collections. Trained as both a lawyer & a photographer, he show more directs two galleries of nineteenth- & twentieth-century fine arts photography, one in Minneapolis & the other in Aspen, Colorado.
