951 George Washington A Biography Volume One: Young Washington, by Douglas Southall Freeman (read 13 Apr 1968) The is the first volume of a great seven volume biography. I remember I was impressed in that Washington did not get born till half way through this first volume. This told me that I was going to be reading a thorough biography, and I was right. What was being discussed in the first half of the volume? Well, Washington's forbears, and the Fairfax holdings in Virginia, were some of the things cogently and ably told about.
