"The Top Job" was a very cute and exciting book for children. This book was truly an eye opener that something does not have to seem interesting or cool for it to be interesting or cool. The students did not want to hear about the protagonist's father changing a light bulb because that was not as cool as what the other parents did. But the protagonist did not give up, she knew her dad's job was cool so she kept talking. This book would invite students to use their imagination as our protagonist did. She used her imagination and took from the other parents' jobs that were very cool and found a way to incorporate it into her own story.
This realistic fiction books is about career day in a classroom. All the students share what their parents do. Everyone's parents have exciting jobs excpet one girl tells the class about what her dad does and they don't think it's exciting until she continues her story. When she is finished with her story the entire class wants to visit her dad at his work. This would be a great book to introduce career day in your own classroom.
This is a good example of realistic fiction. The students in your classroom can easily relate to students in this book becaues they would encouter similar situations. This teaches students about what it is like to have your parents have different jobs like a jeweler, Nascar driver, UFO hunter, and changing light blubs on high towers. I really like the way that the author introduces the little girl who's dad changes light blubs. Some people laugh at her and beging to ignore her, but he is so proud of what her dad does and others become interested as she shares a story of how he changed the light bulb on the top of the Empire State Building. She is a round character because we learn more about her adventures and family through her story. show more She is static because she doesn't change we simply learn more about her. I would use this in a Primary classroom. The media is acrylics. show less
