Ok, nice little twist in this one. The illustrations are getting a little better, imo, too - the expressions more clear and the lines tighter.
Iris and Walter's class finds out that they are going on a field trip. The two friends are so excited, so they tell their families. While at the aquarium, they are supposed to stay up with their groups, but Walter got "lost". Iris and her teacher, Mrs. Cherry, go to look for him. When they find him, they realize he didn't even know he was lost. Iris develops from worrying about Walter while he is lost to the one who finds Walter and makes the rescue. She is a great friend.
“Iris and Walter and the Field Trip,” was a good book. It was a small chapter book with only four chapters in it. This book is told in the third person, but the characters speak a lot in the book. The book is about the excitement that two children named Iris and Walter are feeling because they are going on their first field trip. The story takes place at several locations, but the main area is the aquarium. During the field trip, Walter gets lost, and Iris gets very upset. The teacher and Iris go to look for him, and they finally find him. When they do find him, Walter didn't even realize that he was lost. The theme of the story is to pay attention to your surroundings. With the story being told in the third person helps, because show more there are so many characters in the story that the narrator helps keep everything straight. The plot is full of excitement and details that it is important that the narrator keeps everything straight. Without the narrator, the story may have gotten a little confusing. The book is good, and it would be a helpful book to read to a class before their first field trip. The book is a helpful tool to teach children what might happen if they don't pay attention to the teacher when they are on a field trip. show less

School Field trip to the Aquarium and Iris and Walter are bus buddies. They will be together through out the day. Walter is mesmerized by the coral reef and falls behind. Iris realizes Walter is missing and talks with her teacher. They head off to find Walter. He didn't realize he was lost.
Good book to discussion prior to a field trip. I would have everyone read the book and then discuss what to do if a student gets separated from the group.
