Written through poetry, this is a story written about a girl who loves her life, how close she lives to her bestfriend, the astronomy charts that she has on her walls, and her favorite teacher. She has to leave all of the things she loves because her father has lost his job. This story is relatable to so many children and even adults. At any given moment, your whole life can be uprooted and changed drastically and you must adapt to these changes.
This book was like a big hug from your mom. The novel in verse isn't my favorite but this worked very well. The story was simple and sweet but universal. Great pick for the Bluestem list.
This book is very touching about a girl who loves her life. It is full of emotion and is set up in a poetry format. It is interesting to read a story in a different way than normal. It has a lot of voice throughout so you know what Diana is thinking exactly by sharing her feelings a lot. Imagery is a big thing within the book too.
Summary- This poetry collection tells the story of Mary as she deals with change, friendship and learning to be content wherever she is at. Each poem glides into the next and tells the story of Mary moving from one house to the next.

Strength- Layout
The layout of the book is much different than many poetry collections. The fact that the poems are in sequential order and tell a cohesive story can open the readers eyes to the freedom of poetry.

Uses with Students- This would be a great book to begin a discussion on what poetry is. This book is proof that poetry does not have to rhyme.
Beatifully written and illustrarted book of poetry of a girl who has to move to a new town and leave her friends behind. Just beautiful, I loved it!!

Very heartwarming story of how a job loss can impact a child in a family. Very inspirational for kids going through hard times.
A novel in verse about a young girl whose family must move when her father loses his job. In coming to terms with this, she also realizes that new opportunities await her.
