This book explores the current state of Native nations in the U.S. It explores governance, assets and economy, social development, and culture. There are chapters on Alaskan natives, native Hawaiians and urban indians.
This is a comprehensive look at the current situation among American Indians, with just enough history and background on policy development to provide context for the reader.
As a Canadian, I found it very interesting to see how different policy choices sometimes led to the very same issues that remain to be resolved. I was very encouraged by the benefits that have been realized through self-government (or self-determination).
This book is strengthened by several essays by native people related to the theme of particular show more chapters.
