When two award-winning science-fiction masters like Anne McCaffrey and Elizabeth Ann Scarborough collaborate, the results are astonishing. Their master creation is Petaybee, a sentient planet able to guide its own evolution and, with some help from its loyal inhabitants, defend itself against predation by offworlders. Now, at last, McCaffrey and Scarborough return to Petaybee for the thrilling conclusion of the Twins of Petaybee trilogy, the sixth novel of the amazing self-aware world. DELUGE InterGal Corporation has long desired to exploit the resource-rich Petaybee. But the planet and its guardians, led by Yana Maddock and Sean Shongili, along with their twin children, Ronan and Murel, have successfully thwarted every attempt by the Corporation to impose its iron-fisted dominion. Until now. In a bold two-pronged assault, the predacious Corporation has arrested Petaybee’s leading off-world champion, Marmion de Revers Algemeine, on trumped-up charges, while InterGal’s military arm has dispatched an invading force to subdue the planet once and for all. Marmion has allies within the Corporation who can halt the invasion. but if they cannot be found quickly, it will be too late for Marmion . . . and Petaybee. While their parents work to foil the invasion of their world, Ronan and Murel are captured and sent to a desolate prison world where an old enemy, Dr. Mabo, waits to continue her cruel experiments on the shape-changing siblings. The twins’ only hope of escape lies in the uncharted seas of the prison planet. But in the murky depths, something else is waiting. . . .… (more)

Anne McCaffrey is an author I always enjoy reading. I really loved the way this series started although I felt it lost a bit of its appeal as the books went on.I do find it to be a very fascinating world with great characters but I am not sure I love the formula of the story telling. But I still quite like it. ( )

OK, I finally have read the sequel trilogy to the Petaybee books. I think one well written book could have replaced these 3 books and all would have been well. ( )

Definitely a fun romp.
Marmee has been arrested for "kidnapping" the Haluans. (Technically true - 'it's easier to beg forgiveness than attain permission') It's the Shongili twins to the rescue.
While their parents deal with a planetary invasion bent on forcibly relocating the entire Petaybeean population to a prison planet (a death sentence for said population as they cannot LEAVE their home world), The twins hitch a ride with intelligent Aliens to Marmee's station - only to find it occupied and themselves transported to said prison world -
Just in time to face a world-catastrophe!

It was easy to drop in and get lost in this latest Petaybeean romp. ( )

Epigraph
Dedication
We would like to dedicate this book to the late Zuzu and her mistress, the real Adrienne Robineau, who loaned us both her last name and Zuzu's as well as many details of Zuzu's personality for the Piaf ship's cat.

This book is also dedicated to Adrienne's mom, Annette Brigham, and to her sister and brother-in-law, Felicia Dale and William Pint, a brilliant musical duo and longtime friends who introduced us to the rest of Felicia's family.

Acknowledgments
Besides Adrienne and Zuzu, we would like to thank our friends and research assistants, Lea Day and Richard Reaser, as well as the Poole family for sharing their insight into Hawaiian culture.
And, of course, Anne McCaffrey owes the Irish aspects of Petaybee to her adopted homeland of Eire and her friends there, as Elizabeth Ann Scarborough owes the Arctic aspects of the planet to her former hometown of Fairbanks, Alaska, and her many wonderful friends there.
First words
The sentient world Petaybee, its northern continent blanketed in snow, appeared deceptively serene.
