This book is pretty clearly written by someone who specialises in game writing, so it's a bit simple in places and very head-hoppy, and every chapter jumps pretty significantly in time and shows a separate enclosed 'adventure' moment/sequence, but it wasn't bad, and given it is written to accompany a legit actual game (5 modules, each mirroring a chapter) I give it a bit of a pass for that. (There's also one place where it feels pretty menacingly like there's going to be a painful twist that . . . doesn't materialise, in fact there's nothing to that shadow at all. But it's not necessarily foreshadowing without a payoff, I think it's just a clumsy few bits of phrasing.)

It's sincere and warm, and it doesn't feel like gameplay translated show more into fiction, but the action scenes read well in themselves (and then you get a chance to try hitting the 'win' condition in the book by playing the module yourself). All in all combined with the game (because I can't separate it entirely) it's fun and a nice evening to read and play through! (On first go, anyway; we'll see how replayability is!) show less
