Gloria is 19, mostly non verbal and has a learning disability. Living with her mother and finished with college, she spends her time at the park. She meets a very angry man named Jack who doesn’t seem to mind her limited interaction with him.
One day Jack’s temper gets the best of him resulting in an act of violence for which he is sent to prison. Gloria later develops curiosity about the victim’s family which manifests itself in a disturbing manner.
The years pass and Gloria is now residing in a group home . When she learns that Jack has been released from prison, she is forced to relive her past all over again.
I thought that the author did a great job contrasting Gloria’s thoughts while she struggles to understand everything show more around her and her interactions with the other characters in the book. show less
