Tom's Wild Ride

A sweet tale about how far determination can get you in a single day, despite set backs. Arsenault does a lovely job demonstrating how the love and concern others hold for you sometimes becomes an unseen barrier to self growth. It is only by setting one's own sites on a goal the feels possible that one learns what they are capable of.

This little book is delightfully illustrated and the use of color against black and white images emphasizes changing emotions for young readers. Great to read together while still appropriate for advanced early readers to peruse on their own.

A wonderful picture book that charts Tom's first attempt to ride his new bike to his being able to remove the training wheels, with his friends' encouragement along the way.

A sweet story about friendship and endurance. A great addition to the series. The kids will be begging for this one over and over - I guarantee it.

Great children book about a kid who wants to be great at cycling a little to quickly.

This is a book designed to help a beginner bike rider understand the obstacles he might encounter as he decides whether to take his friends' advice to proceed slowly or to move ahead with his own plans. Showing the rider starting out with a bandage indicates the rider has already encountered some of these obstacles. The friends are worried but at the end are enthusiastic that the bike rider is able to triumph over these obstacles. The author/illustrator employs a good use of color to differentiate the various opinions.
