Description

Air Force Major Vanessa Blake had been handpicked to lead the first all-female Special Forces team, the Medusas. But there was one bit of classified information the military hadn't shared with her--their trainer, tough-as-nails Lieutenant Colonel Jake Scatalone, was under orders to prove women had no place in Special Forces. No matter how well Vanessa and her team performed, they would fail. Then Scatalone disappeared on a crucial mission in hostile territory. And Vanessa made the military a show more deal it couldn't refuse: send in the Medusas. If they succeeded, they would become an official team. If they died, no one would ever have to know.... show less

43% through before even a whiff of romance. And I found that refreshing, I really enjoyed that battle of wits. How Vanessa used her brain to meet the challenges set. As well as the physical demands. I liked how she worked harder and smarter. I liked how the romance remained secondary to the story, once it was introduced.

But when the Medusas were sent into action, there was a lot of bloodshed (not theirs) that turned my stomach a bit. OK they were "terrorists", but they (the Medusas) shot about 200 people in one battle. I know this is fiction, I just don't find mass death entertaining.

I have mixed feelings about this book.

AF Major Vanessa Blake is selected to handpick a team of 5 women to join her to train to become the first female Special Forces team named the Medusas. Lt Col Jack Scatalone is their trainer secretly ordered to ensure they fail. But when Jack goes on a secret mission and disappears, Vanessa uses the opportunity to put the Medusas to the test. The mission is highly suspenseful with the ladies showing their kick-ass skills. A good romance worked throughout with emphasis on the psychological toll the career has on these Forces
Air Force Major Vanessa Blake had almost given up on getting her dream of joining a Special Forces unit and she jumps at the chance of joining a team. An all-femal Special Forces Team nicknamed the Medusas. Lieutenant Colonel Jake Scatalone is their trainer with a mission to prove that there is no place for women in Special Forces.

Along the way both sides learn a lot from each other including respect. When the training is over and they're informed that no matter how well they had performed there was no succeeding they jump at the chance of helping Scatalone when he disappears on a mission. Vanessa strikes a deal to prove the worth of her team.

Yes, there is romance as well, after all it is a Mills and Boon but it's not the main focus of show more the story, the main focus is on training up a team of gutsy women and having them proove themselves and not in a sexist or demeaning way, these women know their jobs and the author knows military. show less
