I enjoyed this story, but even with the heavy subject matter, I felt it lacked emotional depth and found myself wishing the characters were older. Because of their ages and the lighter handling of those tough themes, the book read more like YA to me. That being said, the plot kept me engaged, and I really appreciated the quiet love between Layla and Jacob.
