I really like this genre of animal-related, animal-positive non-fiction - James Herriot and Gerald Durrell, Jackson Galaxy, and so forth. I also adore felines. So I am the perfect reader for this book. I enjoyed the author's accounts of various cats and their human companions that popped up in her practice. Most anecdotes were amusing, but 0ne of the stories was so touching that it brought tears to my eyes, no shame felt.
This was a fun book! It's an easy read and very entertaining to this cat fan. I can't imagine putting all the money into my pets that these folks did, but I noted that only one story (the one mrsjones mentioned about the girl with cancer) had a cat that lived with a family including children! The cats in these stories are the people's children. We used to be like that at our house but when our "real" kids came along the pets were put in perspective. I remember sleeping in my clothes and shoes when my cat didn't come home at bedtime, fearing I would have to leap out of bed and rescue her! We still love our cats, mind you, but they don't quite run the house like they used to.

I agree that this lady's job really seems more like just common show more sense to me (I was afraid it was going to be one of those people who claims to have psychic connections with cats--sheesh). I admire her most for her willingness to step into uncomfortable situations and not let people's doubts and criticisms hold her back. My favorite story I think was the one with Freddie (who kept spraying the wife's clothes). I'd like to read some of her other books. show less
