Description
A Legend of American Strength and Purpose Born during the coldest winter anyone could remember, Paul Bunyan was never an ordinary child. From the moment he outgrew his cradle, it was clear he would leave his mark on the world. With his loyal blue ox, Babe, at his side, Paul helped clear forests, open roads, and prepare land for towns and families to grow. His strength was legendary. His camps were the largest in the northwoods. His name became part of American folklore. But this is more than show more a story about size. It is a story about leadership. About work that matters. About knowing when to step forward -- and when to step aside. Part of the Legends of America series, this thoughtful retelling honors the workers and traditions that shaped the tall tales of generations past. For families, classrooms, and readers who want to explore the meaning behind the myth. The stories grow. The work remains. show lessMember Reviews
I had heard of Paul Bunyan before, but I had never actually read Paul Bunyan, so this was a first for me.
I really enjoyed the writing style. The chapters are short, which makes it feel light and easy to get through, and I found myself naturally reading parts out loud. There’s a bit of a rhythm to it that brings the story to life, almost like it’s meant to be told as much as it is read.
It’s the kind of book that works both ways: a child can sit down and read it in one go if a child enjoys longer reading time, or just take it one chapter at a time and come back to it. That flexibility makes it great for different reading styles.
Overall, it was simple, well done, and wrapped up satisfyingly. A nice introduction to a classic American show more folk legend. show less

This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.I enjoyed reading this book. I heard of Paul Bunyan and the folk tale, but I never read a book about him. The book was easy to read, and the chapters were short and to the point. The author makes it clear that Paul Bunyan is a tale, passed down from generation to generation, therefore, young readers will not get confused and believe that Paul Bunyun is a real story. The author also gives a subtle lesson on working for a purpose, embracing change, and when it is time to move on to the next task. I recommend this book for young readers in the 8-10 age range. The chapters are also short enough for a parent to read a chapter (or 2) a day as a bedtime story for those under the age of 8.
