Walking Along the Ancient Tokaido Road, Vol. 2 continues the journey with even greater depth and tenderness. There’s a lovely sense of continuity—familiar roads, familiar rhythms—but also a richer appreciation for the people and stories woven into the route. This volume carries a reflective warmth, reminding us how travel can open our hearts as much as our eyes. It’s a beautifully paced, quietly uplifting companion to the first book, full of understanding and gentle wonder.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. This is one of those early reviewer books that would have benefited from a physical printing. My electronic copy downloaded as somewhat distorted.
While my copy was not formatting on a mobile device, the content itself was beautiful. The photographs the author took from their travelers lends the book an authenticity that you rarely get in these YouTuber travel vlogs that I hate so much.
And the author clearly knows their topic, or at least researched it so well it feels like a local wrote it. While it is a niche topic, any reader would do themselves a favor to seek out more information of the 53 stations, for instance.
And an additional thank you should be given to the author for choosing a topic that might soon become lost to history. show more It’s great, and we are lucky to have those great writers who are capturing the figments of society that we all love. show less
