One lies. One loves. One kills. And she’s not sure which is which.

Labyrinthine is this dark Greek mythology-inspired romantasy packed with deadly trials, shadow magic, secrets, betrayals, and a princess who has spent her entire life treated more like a curse than a person.

Azhara was SUCH a compelling FMC because underneath all the magic and destiny stuff, she’s really just a girl trying to survive a kingdom that has controlled her entire life. The emotional weight of her constantly being manipulated by her father and everyone around her made me root for her so hard.

And the love interests?? STRESSFUL in the best way.

You’ve got Mallen — the dark, possessive protector who’s been at her side forever… and then Darian, the golden show more prince who feels dangerous in a completely different way. One feels like obsession, one feels like freedom, and I honestly didn’t know who to trust half the time.

The worldbuilding was immersive too. Gods abandoning the kingdom, deadly Reaping trials, hidden truths buried inside the labyrinth… it all felt eerie, magical, and high stakes from beginning to end.

My only tiny critique is that I wanted some scenes to breathe a little more because the prose occasionally felt abrupt. But overall? I was completely hooked.

If you love:
- Greek mythology retellings
- deadly trials
- shadow magic
- imprisoned princesses
- love triangles
- morally gray men

…add this to your TBR immediately.

Thank you to CJ Holmes and Tantor Media for the gifted earc and alc through author and Netgalley. Thoughts are my own.

Confession: this book had me emotionally spiraling over fictional men inside a cursed labyrinth.

This book is filled with death, danger, and deception, and I enjoyed it even more than I thought I would. We have deadly trials - only this time, the main character isn't participating in them. She's forced to endure watching them, to watch men die every year, in the hope of winning her hand, as her father rigs the game over and over again to ensure no one ever does. I felt pulled between the two love interests, unsure who to believe or root for, changing my mind again and again over which one she should choose. But I enjoyed that it wasn't just about choosing a man - it was about choosing a future that affects everyone. She, who has never once had a choice of her own, now faces *the* choice that will affect kingdoms and magic show more itself.

There were times I had to pause to appreciate a sentence or phrase. To just let it settle and root into my soul. As well, I appreciated only knowing what Azahara knew, having to untangle the lies to find the truth, rather than having it simply told to us. It took us on the journey with her, rather than relegating us to the role of spectators, watching her struggle while we already had all the answers.

We see her grow from a mere pawn in someone else's game into the one making the moves. And I loved that at the end she is standing on her own, facing her father head-on, one-on-one. No longer letting a man choose or do for her, she makes her own choices and fights her own fights.

In the end, I thought her choice felt right, especially as we learn more about the love interests.

I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a fair and honest review.

A pleasant read of a rainy spring weekend. The book followed the standard tropes expected for the genre and was well written.
