Marty and Bo, businessmen with a knack for trouble, return for another adventure. I have not read the previous books in this series, but the author does a good job of providing enough information about what has happened before to follow the current story. In Dead Exit, Marty and Bo want to extricate themselves from the coalition they have formed with a powerful Russian mobster. As things progress, they see hints of dangerous illegal activities in one of their companies. They decide to investigate the goings-on themselves rather than involving the police. Stuff happens.
The book was an easy read, with no long dumps of data or overdone descriptions. Marty's logic and choices are often questionable; perhaps they would make more sense if I show more had read the prior stories. Overall, the story is unexceptional. The author clearly wanted to create tension, but I didn't care enough about the characters to feel it. show less

This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.I'm so happy that this author is continuing his Bo and Marty series! This is the third book and they keep getting better and better - highly recommend them. They are a combination of mystery/detective/noir in the best possible way. The character development continues as they mature and expand their skills and knowledge - good thing they still know how to get themselves in and out of the messes they "sometimes" create for themselves. The ending was completely unexpected - so now I'm anxiously awaiting book 4!!
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.A Marty Schott and Bo Bishop book that deals with the illegal import of fake cigarettes and other illegal substances. Bo's brother-in-law is killed outside a strip club which leads to them discovering that some of their employees had been dealing in procuring illegal cigarettes and pocketing a large portion of the profits. This happens at the same time as Marty and Bo are divesting themselves of their Russian co-owners. Eventually they go to the authorities only to find out that the illegal activities are both national and international with numerous government agencies involved .
