The narrative technique of the story encourages reader participation in the evolving and absorbing life journey of Tessa and her supporting team. After escaping the potato famine in Ireland, the first hurdle she must conquer is to connect with her future husband in the marriage that has been arranged. But when no husband is found, will she be rescued? This is where the reader really connects with Tessa through her happy times, challenges, and adventures, and the people who support her. Her rescuers include Daniel, who creates a new life for her with support and happiness and, yes, disagreements, through marriage and her child, and a multitude of other supporting characters. Not forgotten is her family back in Ireland who not only suffer show more through the famine, but also political differences and the surprising consequences to Tessa that the author interweaves into the plot, plus one major late surprise for the reader. Overall, a well-researched and absorbing read. show less
