Religion Unburdened by Belief is an important book. In it, Dr. Pritikin tries - and largely succeeds - in retaining the beauty, the community and the secular awe of religion, while freeing us of the "shoulds" of most current institutional revisions. To make his case, Pritikin takes us through a mosaic of explanatory support: States of consciousness, tribal religions, the use of psychedelics such as ayahuasca, along with internal family systems (IFS) therapy, as he integrates a non-dogmatic spirituality with the modern world. An A+. Perfect for all those interested in the intersection of spirituality and psychology.

Also, I just had a fascinating conversation with Dr. Pritikin about his new book. We covered:

- Reclaiming the word show more “religion” from its bureaucratic, organizational baggage
- The core-shell theory of personality and how psychedelics illuminate the essence beneath it
- Comparing Internal Family Systems to Assagioli’s psychosynthesis
- Why Goldsmith prefers solitary, internally-directed psychedelic use over group ceremony (Santo Daime, Ayahuasca, Vipassana)
- Unblending as a skill, and whether it can be measured by capacity to stay grounded under increasing psychedelic challenge
- Psychedelic integration and the “dune grass” analogy for making insights stick
and other challenging and helpful topics.
