Pretty tedious. You could cut it down to two hours without losing anything. There are a number of lengthy segments which do nothing but show off armies of extras. The climax is about a half hour before the end of the movie.

Maior best seller do século XIX, sua linguagem é, para o gosto mais moderno, demasiado floreada. Frases como "Ó Leitor" e "Thou shalt not" lhe dão uma sensação arcaica. O autor parece ter-se inspirado em Shakespeare e Scott,, entre outras fontes. O meio se arrasta por causa do excesso de diálogos. No lado positivo, o Livro Primeiro é um excelente relato dos eventos que levaram à chegada dos Magos do Oriente. Mas sem dúvida os filmes (com Ramon Novarro e Charlton Heston, respectivamente) e suas corridas de quádrigas emocionam mais quem quer que aprecie literatura cristã.
