This picture word book presents young readers with illustrations of familiar places: the kitchen, the yard, the street, the toy shop. Individual pictures of items surround each double-page illustration; the youngest readers can use these to find and identify items in the larger picture while older readers can read the word, helping to expand vocabulary and reading skills.

An alphabetical word list follows.

Highly recommended.
This is one of those detailed books kids love. I use it extensively in ESL. Finding the duck and reviewing vocab and prepositions is a lot of fun.
This book would be perfect for a child who is learning English. Not only does the book show you the word, but it also gives you a picture of the word and where you can find it. This will help the student make connections in the classroom as well as outside of the classroom. Most words if not all of them are used on a daily basis which will help reinforce them in the process. For a student who is a visual learner, this book will be a good fit for them.
This book "provides a treasury of learning opportunities devised to appeal to a wide age range. It is an exciting (read aloud) book for very young children just starting to say their first words, a stimulating picture word book for pre-readers and a lively source book of ideas and spelling for first readers." This book is well indexed, so an adult wanting to work on a certain area with a child can easily find that subject.

His illustrations are noted for being instantly recognizable and usually depicting open-faced, innocent-looking children and animals. Cartwright was born in Bolton in the show more United Kingdom and studied at Rochdale College of Art before moving to London where he trained at Saint Martin's School of Art and then at the Royal College of Art."
