First published in 1985 this book of ten sailing cruises around the Swins and Swatchways of the fabled Kent and Essex estuaries delighted Maurice Griffiths loyal readership. Starting his sailing in the 1920 Maurice (MG to his friends and loyal fans) became the editor of the English Yachting Monthly, a role he continued until retirement.

The book is delightfully illustrated by Maurice himself, an able draftsman and respected Yacht Designer as well as talented author. Almost the very first illustration, of a cozy cabin interior, anchors the enchanted web that the ‘yarns’ spin. The drawings caption is “Edwardian maybe, but warm and inviting." So is the entire book. We have two copies, one on the shelf and one to keep on the boat and show more both are often reread with enjoyment.

A talented yarn-spinner, Griffiths simply told tales of his “minor adventures’ hold the attention and leave the reader wanting more. Thankfully Maurice wrote seven other cruising and sailing books and left a rich legacy.
