BISCUIT WINS A PRIZE is a cute little book at the Kindergarten reading level (end of Kindergarten).

The story is about Biscuit's girl taking him to a pet show. Biscuit is playful as usual and it's hard to get him out the door. Once at the pet show the book is all about Biscuit meeting new friends and old. This is a bit frustrating for his girl who would like him to stay put so he can be judged. It all works out in the end because Biscuit wins a prize.

This is a great Biscuit book. Kids will love seeing old friends and all the new animals which are shown in warm, friendly colors. The ending is heartwarming with Biscuit in a basket with kittens; receiving a prize for being so friendly.

I like this book because it show more can be shared with a wide range of ages. With toddlers and preschoolers you can point out the different animals, their names and colors. You can even count them to throw in some math. You can also add in any additional information you want, like what parrots eat, for example. Then, of course, the book is a practice reader.

*Teachers should note that there is an AR exam.

Very versatile book.

Biscuit's owner is trying to get him ready for the dog show, but all he wants to do is play. When they get to the show Biscuit sees all of his friends and even makes new ones while running around. When the judges go to give out the prizes, Biscuit's owner doesn't know what he will get. He ends up getting the best prize of all, #1 Friend. This book just goes to show you no matter what you do you are still #1.
This is a very cute book for children. I believe this is a book a child would choose to read. The story is about a little dog going to his first dog show. When he arrives, he is so full of energy he will not even sit for the judge. In the end, he wins a prize for being the friendliest dog!
Young Reader Reaction: This book is very cute and nice for kids to see what can happen when you get distracted. Kids who are jumpy can sympathize with Biscuit. The fact that he is given a prize is heartwarming and shows how the prize does not have to be for the typical good things, which I think is a good lesson for young readers.

Adult Reader Reaction: This is a really sweet story. Many easy readers just get kids to practice words or tell a "factual" story. This one has meat to it, and there are opportunities not only to talk about what happens in the story, but extend that to life, too.

My 6 yr old brought this home from her school library today .. she read it twice today alone .. this is a very cute story about a puppy who goes to a pet show and wins a prize for #1 friend .. very good for early readers.
Biscuit is a puppy whose owner is a little girl. She gets him ready for a pet show, but when they arrive at the show, Biscuit is only interested in the other animals. He doesn't get an award for tricks, but he does win one for being a good friend. This is a short book with a very little amount of words. I would recommended this book for K-1 grade. It is a hood book to help children learn to read.

An energetic puppy cannot stay still to be judged at the pet show when there are so many old friends to greet and new friends to make.
