An oral history of Locke, CA., an old-fashioned Chinese-American community. Many stories and illustations can be found in this book, concerning the Chinese-Americans who came to the Sacramento Delta area from 1850 until the beginning of World War II. Most of these Chinese were farm-laborers, as one resident said: "It was very easy for a year to go by." For the majority, each season had its farm-labor rhythm -- spinach to asparagus to cherries to pears." Quotes from The New Yorker (magazine).
