read these in high school and decided to revisit them. this one is not bad, very much like a hack-and-slash game but it’s a good enough diversion in these pandemic times
This is one of the Elminster novels from the Forgotten Realms. How much you like this book likely depends on how you feel about Elminster. If he wasn't powerful enough before, it is about to get worse. Not bad, not great.

Elminster, rendered powerless by the start of the Time of Troubles, must protect a vast portion of Mystra's divine magic within his mortal body. He and his allies are hunted by long-lived enemies seeking to exploit this vulnerability.

The goddess of magic, Mystra, hides her power in Elminster to protect it as gods are stripped of their power and made mortal.
Ed Greenwood consistently the most disappointing of the D&D authors I read in high school. This entry is just more of the same.
