Mary Higgins Clark was born in the Bronx, New York on December 24, 1927. After graduating from high school and before she got married, she worked as a secretary, a copy editor, and an airline stewardess. She supplemented the family's income by writing short stories. After her husband died in 1964, leaving her with five children, she worked for show more many years writing four-minute radio scripts before turning to novels. Her debut novel, Aspire to the Heavens, which is a fictionalized account of the life of George Washington, did not sell well. She decided to focus on writing mystery/suspense novels and in 1975 Where Are the Children? was published. She received a B.A. in philosophy from Fordham University in 1979. Her other works include While My Pretty One Sleeps, Let Me Call You Sweetheart, Moonlight Becomes You, Pretend You Don't See Her, No Place Like Home, The Lost Years, The Melody Lingers On, As Time Goes By and Kiss the Girls and Make Them Cry. She is the author of the Alvirah and Willy series, which began with Weep No More, My Lady. She is also the co-author, with her daughter Carol Higgins Clark, of several holiday crossover books including Deck the Halls, He Sees You When You're Sleeping, Santa Cruise, The Christmas Thief, and Dashing Through the Snow. She writes the Under Suspicion series with Alafair Burke. In 2001, Kitchen Privileges: A Memoir was published. Author Molly Cochran was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1949. She received a degree in fiction writing from the University of Pittsburgh and studied at the Sorbonne in Paris. Max Allen Collins was born in 1948 in Muscatine, Iowa. He is a two-time winner of the Private Eye Writer's of America's Shamus Award for his Nathaniel Heller historical thrillers "True Detective" and "Stolen Away". Collins also wrote the Dick Tracy comic strip begining in 1977 and ending in the early 1990s. He has contributed to a number of other show more comics, including Batman. Collins created his first independent feature film, Mommy, following a nightmarish experience as screenwriter on the cable movie The Expert. Collins has been contracted by DC Comics to write three tie-ins to his critically acclaimed graphic novel "The Road to Perdition", which was adapted into the feature film. Gregory Mcdonald was educated at Harvard University and, at the same time, started up an international yacht trouble-shooting business to help pay his way through college. In 1964, Mcdonald was hired at the Boston Globe. In his seven years with them, he worked as a writer for the Sunday Magazine, a critic, the Arts and Humanities Editor, a show more critic-at-large columnist and a member of the Editorial Board. He was hired by publisher Davis Taylor to make the Globe more competitive. With Mcdonald, the readership soared but advertisers pulled out, in part because he wrote openly against the Vietnam War, one of the first journalists ever to do so, and for arguing for Civil, Women's and Gay Rights. It was said that a group of fellow employees beat him up in the Globe parking lot for the stance he took in a controversial time period. Mcdonald has written many mysteries including the Fletch, Flynn, Son of Fletch and Skylar series. Some of the titles included in those series are Exits and Entrances, A World Too Wide, and Safekeeping. His novel The Brave was elected Trophees 813 Best Foreign Novel 1997 in France. Mcdonald has twice been the winner of the Edgar Allan Poe Award, a recipient of humanitarian and peoples rights awards and is the past president of the Mystery Writers of America. Warren Murphy was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on September 13, 1933. Before becoming an author, worked in journalism and politics. In 1971, he started the Destroyer series with Richard Sapir. His other novels include Jericho Day, The Red Moon, The Ceiling of Hell, The Sure Thing, and Honor Among Thieves.
