Gothic and spooktacular illustrations, reminiscent of Tim Burton's A Nightmare Before Christmas, capture an eager audience in Jimmy Pickering's Skelly the Skeleton Girl.
We join Skelly as she searches for the owner of a lost bone. But who could it possibly belong to? Let's follow as she questions her skeleton fish, pet bat, man-eating plants, ghosts, the spider next door, and more. The trail seems to grow cold until she hears a noise and solves the mystery.
A charming tale beautifully rendered in full color using mixed media. For spooky, but not frightening, fun any time of the year. Sure to please children, especially girls, ages 4 - 7.

What a perfect story for Halloween! I enjoyed the story line and the crisp clearly-drawn artwork. This is definitely a story to share with children who love Halloween, but maybe not for those who do not celebrate the holiday.
I would give the story itself 1 star and the illustration 5 stars, hence the 3 star rating. It's unfortunate that the author couldn't come up with a story that does justice to the fantastic artwork. I really wish this was a wordless book.
This book is a good pic for little girls as it features cute little Skelly who has found a bone and is faced with the mystery of figuring out which one of her spooky friends it belongs to. It is also a good pic for little ones who are easily spooked, but still want to enjoy the holidays. It does not have a scary theme at all.
