On Love and Death

Description
In this inspiring meditation, Patrick S|skind considers the two great forces of human existence. He draws on scenes as varied as a young couple having oral sex while stuck in traffic, and an elderly Thomas Mann tumbling back into forbidden love. S|skind then dazzles as he writes about Orpheus and Jesus, comparing their very different stories of death conquered through love.Tags

A short book about what love is and the not-so-painful interaction between love and death. Three small vingettes are used to illustrate his ideas. The author then moves on to love and death and that darkly pleasant/un-pleasant blance between the two.
I read this in one sitting - just picked it up and read. Several times I found myself saying, "I have gotten into deeper thoughts here than I planned." I continued on becasue I was drawn to the idea of what love is and, in the second part, how love and death interact. Needless to say this book deserves another reading from me.
I would give this book 4 and 1/2 stars.
