Prince Joe

Suzanne Brockmann's Prince Joe was a fun read. As my son can attest, it had me laughing out loud at several points. The Navy SEAL who is a dead ringer for the crown prince of a tiny foreign country bit seemed a bit eighties television-ish, but I was okay with that. I wasn't looking for War and Peace here. I wanted a fun, rather fluffy read, and that's what I got. My only real issue is with the level of miscommunication between the two main characters. I agree that some is realistic, even necessary. However, for a woman who makes a living as a media consultant in the arena of international politics, I really felt that Veronica St.John should have a better understanding of basic communication skills and knowledge of how to read others. I show more also thought it was breathtakingly selfish of her to admit to Joe that she loved him, all the while believing that she could never have a lasting relationship with him because she'd constantly worry about the dangers he faced in his job. If she truly loved him yet honestly believed that giving him up was her only recourse, she would have been better off not telling him at all. Why do that to the person you supposedly love? I love you, but you have to go away forever? Nope, doesn't do it for me. Of course it all worked out in the end--it is published by Harlequin, after all--but still, that aspect of the story just didn't sit well with me. I’m a sucker for a military romance so, even though the whole US navy protecting a foreign diplomat didn’t ring 100% true for me, I was quite happy to hand wave it. I’ve got the next couple in this series and looking forward to more dashing young men in uniform!

This was so enjoyable. This is definitely an easily consumed book. Everything runs at a great pace. The characters' attraction is hot and sparks definitely fly. THe tidy wrap up at the end feels a little too fast, but otherwise it was all fun. Broackmann's great at really getting you a more in depth perspective of each guy on the team and what makes them tick in each book. Joe is fantastic. A definite recommend if you're a fan of the military romance.

There were small bits in this story that were so unbelievable, (why didn't Joe tell Ronnie he was a good mimic), but over all it was a very good story.

This was my first book by this author and I expected more from this book. After having heard so much about Suzanne Brockmann I wanted a book with more than a book with gaping plot holes and a exasperating romance. Joe and Veronica made me want to bang my head in the wall, the problems in their romance were so stupid and they were blowing it off to elephantine proportions. I wanted my characters to have more depth, the plot to have more thrill, the story to have less loose ends. I was disappointed and I do not see myself being a Suzanne Brockmann convert anytime soon.

This was my first Military Romance I've read. I loved it! It is about Joe who is a SEAL and Veronica who is a media consultant. The premise of the book is that Joe looks like a Prince from a foreign country and this prince is soon going to visit the US. Veronica is hired to make Joe act and look and virtually become this prince. He must take the Prince's place at functions because of assasination attempts.
The characters were great! I loved the writing and the story had a good amount of action and a great love story interwoven throughout the book. You can see how Veronica gets frustrated over Joe and his insistance that he can pull off this plan, but how she feels he isn't taking it seriously. You also begin to see them both falling in show more love with each other despite the fact that neither one of them wants to. Good plot and great writing. show less

I read the first half of this book fairly easily and then made the mistake of putting it down. It took me nearly a month to convince myself to start reading again. I did finish the book. IMHO the h (Ronnie) was a bit bizarre in her head (what was she thinking toward the end?!) but I liked the H (Joe). Overall the read was really just a bit better than OK for me.
