This is one of my favorites of the Tall, Dark & Dangerous series. I loved Wes Skelly through the whole series. He is not tall dark and handsome but more average looking while still being tough. But mostly I like him because he is not perfect. He has a smoking problem and a drinking problem and loves an unavailable woman. But he is a good man. He meets a new woman and falls in love with her and lets himself be happy after years of relationship pain. The way he cares for the heroine is very touching. The bad guy is creepy and the final climatic scene is very tense and well written. The heroine is good too. She is the sister of the heroine of another book in the series and didn't seem like a romantic lead at first but Brockmann pulls it show more off. show less
Not bad - it's a SEAL Team Ten story, after all - but not wonderful. I like Britt and Andy and the crisis Andy gets into, and I do like Wes and his coming to terms with his feelings - but come on. This is a guy whose defining characteristic, throughout the series, has been that he has a buddy who knows him inside out, who's hung out with him when he's gotten drunk, who's been portrayed as very perceptive about motivations. Not to mention his psychologist not-girlfriend. And he finally figures out why he feels so bad about his brother's death _now_? Isn't that just a trifle convenient? Dunno. The romance is pretty good, though the external threats are - not particularly believeable; the characterization is as good as usual - but somehow show more this one never quite triggers suspension of disbelief for me. Good, but not as good as the rest. show less

This is more like a 3 3/4 stars. Suzanne Brockmann's last Tall Dark and Dangerous title is one of my favorite. Her leading man is not the typical, classic hero but the reader along with her leading lady can't help but fall for Wes Skelly. Smaller than most Navy Seal, Skelly wears his insecurities on his sleeve, like his heart. Brockmann succeeds in making her believe in the loyal but misguided love Wes has for the wife of one of his Seal buddy. This unrequired love has gone on for years.

Set up for a blind date with the sister in law of one of the member of his Seal team, Skelly meets someone that changes the way he sees himself and the path he is traveling. Brittany is confident, self aware, the single mother of an adopted teenager.(She show more first appeared in Brockmann's Everyday, Average Jones) She has a good life and is not looking for mister right or mister right now either. It is very nice to read about two grown up people who find they fit perfectly with one another without huge drama or high jinks. Not that it is a boring ride, you never get boring rides with Brockmann. There's action and suspense but it's mixed with a sense that this couple while not in love at first sight are made for one another and will work things out, one problem at a time. show less

Typical SEALs book from Brockmann. While the Tall, Dark, & Dangerous books are definitely formula books, the characters kinda suck you in.

Wes Skelly & Britt

Wes & Britt agree to go on a blind date, mostly to appease mutual friends. Britt is the sister-in-law to Wes' best friend, Harlan. Britt, adoptive mother to teenage Andy, is not looking for a casual fling and Wes is in love (unrequited) with a cheating SEAL team member's wife. They both enjoy each others' company and agree to keep it as a friendship. They rely on each other's friendship to deal with an unbalanced stalker and, separately, the date rapist of Andy's girlfriend. This is a story of a more mature romantic relationship, one that grows out of friendship and letting go of unhealthy ties to others.
Navy SEAL, Wes Skelly, reluctantly agrees to go a blind date with Brittany Evans, sister-in-law of a fellow SEAL. The two hit it off and their attraction grows as they spend time together. But their relationship is tested as Brittany begins getting sinister phone calls and Wes is called to the side of a woman he thought he loved when her husband is killed.

NightWatch is one of Brockman's earlier Navy SEAL romances. It's always fun to keep up with former characters in her books and a Navy SEAL makes the perfect "alpha-male-hero". Great romance/suspense.
I really liked this book. It was only my second book to read in the series and I thought it worked fine as a "stand alone" story. I had read Taylor's Temptation about Wes' sister and I didn't think Wes was an appealing character, but I changed my mind with this book. It was a quick interesting read.
