Interesting book about the artist and his process, although repetative at times.
This is a wonderful book for fans of Eric Carle, who is one of the 20th century's most beloved children's artist and story teller. An autobiographical account of his life is given, along with lots of family pictures, and even some of the artwork he himself did as a child. The book contains three essays on his work; "It takes a practiced hand" by Anne Beneduce, "Eric Carle, An Artist for Children" by Viktor Christen, and "Colors That Touch the Hearts of Children" by Takeshi Matsumoto.
"Where Do Ideas Come from?" is from a speech given by Carle at the Library of Congress. There's also a step-by-step photo essay on his collage techniques and samples of his illustrations and sketches from three decades. The book ends with an illustrated show more bibliography of his work which contains all his books through 1996.
This is an excellent book for anyone who is interested in Children's art and illustration.
