One thing that made me wonder when I read this back in its day was that Claudia's parents never thought to home-school her or put her in a different school or anything. She is also compared to her older (and genius) sister Janine unfairly, so when Claudia is forced to go back to the seventh grade, I was thinking, oh no. Fortunately she does well enough to eventually be able to go back to eighth grade. She is a very creative mind, and figures out a few ways to get through class.
