This is a great picture book that is used as a counting book in mathematics. It is beautifully illustrated and written in a poetic style. It can be used for lower elementary grades to teach students the means of counting, but it also has deep symbolism and rich text that can be used in higher elementary grades. This book is great for naturalism and teaching students math through exploring the world around them. If I taught younger students, I would use this as an outdoor classroom lesson. We would go outside, sit under a tree, read this book and begin exploring the world around us for math. This book can also be used for a cross curriculum lesson with science.
I enjoyed the simple poem the book made along with the style of photography. Showing children how to count in nature should be one of the first ways to teach children to count in my opinon. The child can step outside and find something to count. Making each visit outdoors a potential for learning.
Counting On The Woods is a poem about counting various creatures and objects in the woods.

For very young kids, this would be a good and interactive book. I do like the pictures and how the author fused math and nature. You can still have a kid count other things in the pictures. The print is nice and large and the rhymes are short and easy. Not only does it teach counting, but it shows kids all the things they can find in the woods.
I loved the way the author was able to combine nature, math, and poetry so seamlessly. The images in this book are wonderful and look like they were taken straight out of a nature brochure. The book is written for young readers and is very easy to read.

This a great book for counting and teaching things you would see in the woods. The illustrations capture beautiful images of birds, trees, flowers, and bugs. It didn't have much text, but it was very pretty. "Clean the air for everything that breathes." was a quote in the book that stood out to me.
This is a kid-friendly poem book that talks about nature and different animals. The author did a excellent job of combining nature and animals with counting. It can help kids go outside more and learn how to count different things. The pictures in the book are amazing.
This is a very easy book for young children to practice counting while enjoying poems. Each page has a different number that is depicted by something in nature such as flowers, birds, and bugs.
