I liked this book for several reasons. The main message of this story was to accept your family, especially your family as it grows. The characters in the story were very believable. The main character, Darcy, is a little girl who was not happy about having a baby brother. She did not enjoy how he looked, smelled or the fact that he couldn’t play with her. This is extremely relatable for all young children who have a new baby in the family. I also liked that the illustrations enhanced the story. The illustrations allowed the reader to see the expressions on Darcy’s face, which helped convey her feelings throughout the story. I also liked the relationship between the grandmother and Darcy. Darcy’s grandmother pretends to not like show more the baby either in order to make Darcy feel better. Once Darcy was ready to accept the baby, her grandma admitted maybe she likes the new baby too. This relationship between the two characters helped develop the story and the plot. I also liked the story was well paced and did not create unrealistic expectations that Darcy all of a sudden likes her new baby brother. At the end of the story, it is implied Darcy feels better but the book does not say this explicitly. This also makes the story believable. show less
Darcy doesn't like that there is a baby in her family. When Gran comes over she tells Darcy she doesn't like the baby either. She gets Darcy to go to the park and helps her realizes all the things she can do without the baby. Then Gran is able to explain to Darcy that it is okay to not like the baby but deep down you really do and helps Darcy understand and have a change of heart.

Despite the negative title, this is a potentially positive book for young children who are having difficulty accepting the birth of a new sibling but may not know how to express it. The book expresses their feelings for them through the beautiful interactions between a grandmother and young child. In the end, the baby is accepted too.

A lovely book about Darcy, a little girl, who is not yet at peace with having a new baby brother. Darcy's grandmother, Gran, helps her to accept and appreciate her new brother, through doing just the same with her own thoughts and feelings.

Darcy has a new baby at her house and she does not like the new baby. Everyone keeps telling her she will eventually, except Gran who says she does not like the new baby either. Gran takes Darcy to the park and shares and explores with Darcy all the things she can do that the baby cannot do, and that it is okay that she feels the way she does, and eventually she will like the baby.

A tale of reverse psychology used on an older sibling to learn to like the new baby in the house. In my opinion it wasn't that interesting. Darcy does have a cool grandmother who seems to get her more than her parents seem to.
