I gave this book 3 stars for specific reasons. Although I find this book adorable and my students love it, I think it lacks better illustrations. I teach special needs kids at Marsielles, Illinois and one students in particular grabs this book everyday and makes me read/sing to him. This book is a playful book based on the song "Down by the Bay". It is mainly focused on rhyming. It has many cute lines like "Have you ever seen a fly wearing a tie?". However the illustrations in the book could be better, I think the drawings are very faint and not that vibrant. I think kids would benefit if the illustrations were more outstanding and noticeable.
Overall, "Down by the Bay" by Robin Oz is a playful and cute book, but could be better if the show more illustrations were more vibrant and captivating. show less
This story is a part of the Raffi “Songs to Read” collection. It is a short, rhyming picture book that can be accompanied w/ a CD for audio. The story is about 2 young children whose mother warns them not to go to the bay. Throughout the story we see many different animal characters such as a “goose kissing a moose” or a “whale w/ a polka dot tail”. Nadine Westcott illustrates this story perfectly and does a great job of capturing the emotion of the characters on each page. I enjoyed reading this picture book and think it would be fun to read to a child especially accompanied w/ the audio.
Great book and song for preschool aged children. The song/book are silly and really keep the children's interest. A great way to introduce rhyming to young children.
The song by Raffi is now illustrated to help kids visualize the craziest lyrics that helps kids learn rhyming. This book is great for children that are learning or love to rhyme, its so funny and a big hit. Great for kids 2 to 6.
This one is OK. It's fun to sing now and then but it isn't one of our favorites.
This song has many rhymes about what you might have seen down by the bay. I want to use this in my classroom because I have found that students love the silly nature of the song and it is a great song to use for rhyming practice and listening. I would use this with children up to 1st grade. I would use this as a tool to help my students practice rhyming. We would do the initial rhymes in the book then make up our own to put in the song.
A little boys sees all kinds of wild things down by the bay. It is entertaining and good for rhyming.
